Determined to achieve her dreams of becoming a teacher, Chloe Haylock is about to start a Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status degree after completing Edge Hill University’s Fastrack course.
Chloe has wanted to study in Higher Education since leaving school, however due to difficult family circumstances it never seemed to be the right time. Instead of going to college, Chloe completed an apprenticeship and began full time work.
After losing her father, Chloe moved back in with her mum and brother and decided it was the right time to embark on the Fastrack course and follow her ambition of studying for a degree and achieving her career goals.
“The Fastrack course was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anybody who wants to work hard and make their dreams reality,” said Chloe. This experience fully prepared me for studying a degree, so much so that I feel confident and can’t wait to start my course at Edge Hill in September.
“I truly believe that the Developing Academic Study Skills Sessions were one of the best parts of the course as I learnt how to write essays, reports and how to reference. I will never forget this experience or the friends I made, I don’t know how I would have got through it without the group of girls who will probably be the friends I keep in touch with for life.
“For anyone thinking of doing the Fastrack course, it wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it.”
Chloe also won one of three scholarships available to Fastrack students to reward determination and commitment, and also recognise students who display promise in the face of adversity.
“I had no idea whatsoever that I was receiving a scholarship. It’s such a surprise and has only made me more excited about starting my degree,” Chloe said.
After completing her degree, Chloe hopes to become a highly qualified teacher and in particular, she hopes to become the music co-ordinator in a school and teach music classes.
In the future, Chloe would also like to add more strings to her bow and complete a course for Special Educational Needs, so she can work with other teachers and with parents to make sure that pupils with special educational needs get the right support and help they need at school.
Fastrack is an intensive, free programme for adults. It has been designed to provide the skills and knowledge to prepare participants for an Edge Hill degree.
