Bee

Edge Hill Scholarship student Emma Easton-Powell has been invited to attend the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle in July.

Emma and her Fell pony Bee will be joining the Queen at her private Birthday party, acting as a ‘Guard of Honour’ with other riders, to escort the Queen and Prince Philip from the castle to the cricket ground. After the ceremony, all of the ponies will be presented to the Queen in a small paddock.

The Queen’s love of horses is well-documented, and in addition to owning and breeding them, she is the patron of the Fell Pony Society. As a member of this society, Emma was sent an invitation to apply to take part in the celebrations, and her application was accepted along with 89 others.

Biology student Emma was awarded with an On-Course Excellence Scholarship in Enterprise after she started her own equine equipment business. Emma saw a gap in the market for a feel good therapy for both animals and people, and invested £200 into a physiotherapy back massager for horses that could be rented out. Her product called ‘The Massage Mitt’ has recently featured in Your Horse magazine and was awarded product of the month.

Excellence Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated determination, commitment and achievement outside of their studies. Click here to find out more.
