Edge Hill’s Facilities Management (FM) team has scooped a top industry award from the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) for the second year in a row.

The award was presented at a ceremony hosted by actor and comedian Hugh Dennis at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 13th October.

The FM team fought off tough private sector competition from a shortlist of six organisations to scoop the Excellence in Customer Service Award. This follows their 2013 win in the In-House Client Team category.

Amongst an increasingly high standard of applications, BIFM described the University’s entry as clearly demonstrating ‘enthusiasm, professionalism and team passion for delivering the highest quality of customer service and ensuring excellence.’

“The judges this year were clearly once again impressed with how we have embedded a customer service culture, the overt engagement of our staff, and our genuine commitment to the student experience,” explains Bill Hancox, Director of Facilities Management.

Bill continues: “We adopt a genuine customer-centric approach to FM here, and winning a highly-prestigious BIFM Award – two years in succession – provides external, objective professional recognition of our commitment to continually improving the customer experience.”

“The beautiful environment we support and maintain forms an essential part of our product offer at Edge Hill – and we believe we have one of finest campuses in the UK. The FM team provides essential services to thousands of students and staff, and we are incredibly proud to be recognised for placing those customers at the heart of all that we do.”

The FM team maintained the Customer Service Excellence (Government Standard) this year, achieving Compliance Plus in three areas, and was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Leadership & Management Awards – Outstanding Estates Team shortly afterwards. The team also have proven track record with regard to environmental sustainability – achieving Soil Association (Food For Life) Standard this year, maintaining Vegetarian Society accreditation, and achieving Green Flag status for the campus for a third year running.

Bill Hancox added: “Although there is nothing particularly unique about the core services and products we offer to our students, staff, visitors and partners, it remains clear that the manner in which we deliver them continues to yield positive results and is thankfully generating overwhelmingly positive customer feedback. Our approach remains atypical for FM teams in the education sector, and in some cases the private sector, and I am delighted that the BIFM has recognised this.”

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) is internationally recognised as the authoritative, professional body for Facilities Management (FM).
