Edge Hill University’s string of ‘green’ credentials is proving it to be one of the most environmentally friendly in the country as it once again scoops another prestigious award.
For the second year running, the University has been given Green Flag status – the national benchmark for parks and green spaces in the UK – for maintaining an attractive, safe and welcoming campus.
The award recognises the University’s huge efforts in minimising the environmental impact of its activities, maintaining natural habitats through its commitment to biodiversity, and developing a sustainable campus for the enjoyment of students, staff and local community.
Bill Hancox, Director of Facilities Management, said: “Our innovative buildings, attractive grounds and excellent facilities are the subject of increasing positive feedback from those who study in, work at or visit the University. Our award-winning campus is absolutely intrinsic to the Edge Hill experience and we are proud that we have been awarded Green Flag status for the second year running. It is testimony to the team’s hard work ensuring that a high-quality environment is developed and maintained. I’m delighted that we have gained this accreditation and I hope our staff, students and the wider community take pride in this achievement.”
This latest accolade builds on the success of the University’s recent shortlisting for the EAUC Green Gown Awards, which recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK. It also builds on Edge Hill’s excellent performance in the People and Planet Green League for 2013.
“Edge Hill will continue to invest in developing a high quality, efficient and stimulating learning environment,” said Bill. “To make this happen we ensure that environmental sustainability is at the core of our decision-making. The positive engagement and commitment of our staff, students and the wider community has helped us create a truly stunning campus – arguably one of the finest in the UK.”
The campus has become a popular local attraction for thousands of visitors each year who come along for open days, conferences and guests lectures, as well as its community sports complex and the popular Arts Centre.
