Learning Services have won a prestigious international award in recognition of the outstanding usage of mobile technology in and beyond the classroom at Edge Hill University.
The Team have been given the 2013 Blackboard Catalyst Award for Mobile Innovation – and as a result join a select group of eLearning professionals, system administrators and institution staff from around the world whose positive impact on the student experience has been recognised as significant and exemplary.
For Edge Hill, embracing mobility is an investment in the student experience and this achievement acknowledges the impact of that ethos. Partnering with Blackboard, one of the world’s largest eLearning providers, and investing in the company’s Blackboard Mobile™ Learn and Blackboard Mobile™ Central apps allows us to give our students what they need and expect- quick and easy access to key university services from their mobile devices.
Blackboard praised Learning Services’ strategic initiatives to support the Edge Hill community, such as technology roadshows to help students download apps to connect to the campus wifi, as well as staff development programmes. New mobile friendly teaching and learning practices in sport, health and education are helping students learn at a time and place that is convenient to them.
Meg Juss, Learning Technology Development Manager, said: “This award celebrates the hard work and achievement of many colleagues and students across the University. The product of constructive relationships and collaboration makes innovation and transformative teaching and learning practices possible – so this accolade goes to everyone at Edge Hill who is involved, engaged and working together to embrace mobile learning.
“Always keen to enhance what we do, we’re constantly evaluating feedback, monitoring usage patterns, researching and benchmarking, to ensure we are in a position to respond to changing behaviours and continue to implement a progressive mobile strategy.
“The mobile landscape continues to shift and provide new opportunities to enhance education and we’re working to build on these strong foundations to explore these exciting new developments. We will continue to invest in a portfolio of mobile facilities and activities to develop staffing expertise in order to positively enhance the student experience- so watch this space.”
Edge Hill University will be presented with its award at a special ceremony during the BbWorld®, Blackboard’s annual user conference held this July in Las Vegas, Nev.
“Catalyst Award winners represent some of today’s finest examples of leveraging technology to improve the education experience,” said Ray Henderson, Chief Technology Officer and President of Academic Platforms at Blackboard. “Each winner has established best-in-field approaches in critical areas including online learning, course development, school communication and mobile education. We congratulate the winners on their vision and their excellent work, and we celebrate this accomplishment with them.”
