Get in the Christmas spirit and help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in Ormskirk’s first Santa Dash at Edge Hill University.
The event, organised by West Lancashire Borough Council’s sports development team, will see hundreds of runners in santa suits racing round the athletics track at the University on 12th December.
There will be three races on the day – a 1km family fun run, a 3km reindeer run and a 5km Santa Dash – meaning there’s something for all ages and abilities wanting to take part.
Each competitor will receive a goody bag, including a santa hat and medal, and all the profits from the event being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support – one of the West Lancashire Mayor’s charities for 2010/11.
Runners are asked to come dressed as their favourite festive character to get into the spirit of Christmas and prizes will be awarded for the best fancy dress.
To book your place at the event, download the Santa Dash application form at www.westlancs.gov.uk/sportsdevel, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01695 555570. Entrants are asked to book as soon as possible to guarantee their place as numbers are limited.
Places cost £5 for over-16s, £4 for students and £3 for under-16s. A family ticket costs £12 and will admit two adults and two children. Runners are also welcome to seek sponsorship for a charity of their choice.
Paul Greenwood, Head of Sports Services at Edge Hill University, said: “Edge Hill are always happy to support any event that helps to increase physical activity in the local community and have offered free use of the facilities at Sporting Edge to host the event. Hopefully the Santa Dash will see people of all ages taking part and having fun and helping to raise money for a worthy cause such as Macmillan Cancer Support.”
