Edge Hill work experience and employment co-ordinator Louise Westhead has packed her Stetson and cowgirl boots in preparation for a trip to America?s home of music.
The 24-year-old from Ormskirk is destined for a weeklong stay in Nashville, Tennessee ? not for a spot of sightseeing but as part of her ‘Nine to Five?!
Louise is the UK?s sole representative at the United States? 31st Annual National Student Employment Association Conference which will be attended by delegates from each of the country?s 50 states.
“In July representatives from America came over to the UK to observe our practice in terms of student employment and I?ve been invited over there in return,” said Louise, a former pupil at Ormskirk Grammar School. “I?ll be taking part in a busy schedule of seminars and training and may yet be asked to chair some of the sessions.”
Following the conference Louise, who is a member of the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES), will write a report on operations in the US and how the UK can emulate them.
“The US has a long tradition of effectively managing student employment and stands as the benchmark for all other countries. The UK is becoming more and more active in this area and hopefully trips such as this will only help our cause.”
As a massive music fan Louise hopes to find some time to take in some of the city?s main tourist attractions.
“I think a trip to Dolly Parton?s Dollywood theme park is on the cards along with a spot of line-dancing at the Wildhorse Saloon ? if time permits!”
National Student Employment Week will take place between October 17th-21st.
