Students at Edge Hill helped to spread some Christmas cheer by holding a Christmas Funday for children from the West Lancs area.

The Community Action Group- part of the Students’ Union- held the annual event at the Ormskirk Campus for 35 children with special needs from Ormskirk, Aughton and Skelmerdale.

Lorcan Kerley co-ordinated the event, he said: “This is the sixth year that we’ve held the Christmas Funday. Children whose ages range from eight to eighteen enjoyed the day. This year they took part in games and arts and crafts sessions, followed by a disco and of course a visit from Santa.”

The Christmas Funday is one of a range of community programmes offered by the Community Action Group, where students volunteer their time to help others. Projects held throughout the year include the Gateway Youth Club, Peterhouse school swimming sessions for autistic children and the two-week summer playscheme held at the Ormskirk Campus, that offers a range of activities for children with special needs.
