Edge Hill’s Faculty of Education has launched a new partnership with the Great Schools Trust that will enhance training, generate new research and improve life chances for pupils.
The partnership has been borne out of shared values and a dedication to improving life chances for children and young people by providing an excellent education. The partners are also committed to using the latest research to continually improve teaching practice.
At the launch conference to celebrate the union, 250 colleagues from King’s Warrington, King’s Bolton, King’s Liverpool, King’s Hawthornes and The Aspire Centre spent the day using Edge Hill’s facilities to explore how to put their strong values into actions.
Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of Education, Dr Jane Moore said: “After a long period of change and upheaval for the education sector we are so proud to be working with the Great Schools Trust to address these challenges and develop new research and training initiatives.
“It was also a delight to welcome the Great Schools Trust to the University for their annual conference, just the first of many future collaborations. Many of the Trust’s teachers are also Edge Hill alumni, it was lovely to welcome them back on to campus as fully-fledged teachers with new experiences, skills and knowledge to share with us.”
Great Schools Trust C.E.O. Shane Ierston said: “As educators we can use social mobility as a force of nature to change communities – Every teacher in our Trust will get the support they need to make this happen.”
Combining expertise from the Trust and University also opens up huge educational opportunities for the Trust’s pupils and the University’s students. This starts with children being invited to campus to experience University life, opening their eyes to higher education and raising ambitions, while presenting students with valuable teacher training experience.
In time, the partnership will enable teachers, ITE students and University academics to work collaboratively to enhance training as well as generating ongoing professional development and research that will improve life chances for all children and young people.
