I am a full-time plastic surgery registrar working at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (Coventry, UK) – a major trauma centre and teaching hospital.
The nature of my speciality means that the expectations of patients are not always straightforward and often raise various ethical and legal issues. My role as a clinician and budding ethicist (currently completing a masters in Biomedical Ethics and Healthcare Law) means I often use these day-to day scenarios to translate the ethical principles and law to more meaningful teaching tools. As a clinical trainer teaching is a core part of my duties.
My areas of interest are within the realms of medical law, the ethical dilemmas in professional practice, cultural and religious diversity within healthcare and making bioethics more than just a topic to pass through training.
