Andy Kirk

Andy KirkAndy is the Associate Head of Allied Health Professions having previously been the Programme Lead and a Senior lecturer within the paramedic team. Prior to joining Edge Hill University in 2010, Andy was a Clinical Practice Trainer and registered paramedic with the North West Ambulance Service.

Andy is an experienced academic and paramedic and continues with his professional development commencing his PhD in January 2020. He has led and taught on the undergraduate DipHE Paramedic Practice programme and coordinated the design of the new BSc (Hons) Paramedic Practice programme which commenced in September 2018. He has a vested interest in biomedical ethics as this is a key part of the paramedic role, with operational clinicians frequently encountering quite complex and challenging legal and ethical situations in clinical practice. He currently co-leads a module as part of the BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice programme, which supports students in exploring legal, ethical and social issues as part of professional practice.

As an experienced paramedic and academic, Andy’s personal commitment and philosophy is focussed on educating and developing students as professionals to ensure they receive an authentic and holistic education experience, to enable them to provide the highest quality care to patients. This philosophy underpinned Andy’s successful achievement of a National Teaching Fellowship in 2018.
