Visitors and members of the public are welcome to use the University Library in Catalyst on the Ormskirk Campus for research and study. During Catalyst helpdesk opening hours, visitors can access the study facilities and browse our print collections. You can search Discover More to see what we have in our collection or just ask us and we will be happy to help you find the items you need.
Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times unless visiting as part of an organised school visit, event or open day. More information about events and activities for schools and colleges can be found on the student recruitment pages.
Electronic resources
Licensing restrictions only allow us to provide visitors with access to a limited number of electronic resources while visiting the library. Please contact us before you visit to check we have what you need.
Wifi
Visitors and members of the public can log into our wifi on their own devices. Students and staff visiting from other universities should be able to connect to the eduroam wireless network. Other users can join the Wifi Guest network provide by The Cloud. If you do not have a device then ask at the helpdesk about a guest login to one of our computers.
Membership
Library membership for Edge Hill staff and student is automatic. We have a number of membership options available to other types of users. A membership allows you to borrow up to 5 items from our 2 week loan collection and in certain cases access to a limited number of electronic resources remotely.
Alumni
Edge Hill University graduates can join the library free of charge. The membership includes access to a number of electronic resources off site. Visit out Alumni Library membership page for more information and to register.
Staff and students from other universities can apply for a membership by registering with SCONUL Access.
Sconul Access is a reciprocal service supported by most of the higher education libraries in the UK and Ireland. If you are a part time student, a member of academic staff, a researcher, or a distance learner you may wish to use other academic libraries, particularly if they are closer to where you live and work. Undergraduates are allowed reference only access via the scheme. When your application is approved you will receive a confirmation email. Bring that email and your university card to the Catalyst Helpdesk on the Ormskirk Campus and our staff will be happy to help you access our service and facilities.
Academic partnership staff
Academic partnership staff can apply for a library membership to help them support Edge Hill University students. This includes access to a number of electronic resources. To find out how to get a library account please email [email protected].
