LLB (Hons) Law
“I really liked the fact that Edge Hill is all on one site, unlike a lot of universities, which are spread out over big cities. When I came to visit, I was then really impressed by the Law Department, which felt very welcoming.
When I look back now, my three years there went so fast and graduation was a real highlight because I felt like I’d achieved so much.
I really enjoyed my time at Edge Hill, so when the chance arose to return recently to speak to current students it was something I was keen to do. I wanted to share my experience with others thinking of doing the LPC, as there’s a world of difference between, say, a brochure or website and information from someone who has actually been through the experience. It provided an opportunity for them to find out exactly what to expect and to ask some questions, so I hope it was useful.
That’s one of the pieces of advice I always give generally: talk to those who have experienced it, whether that is lecturers, students, solicitors or even judges. It’s a long process and costs a lot of money, so if you’re thinking of pursuing a career in law, do some research. You need to be dedicated if you want to make a go of it and, most of all, you need to enjoy it.
I’m a good example of the fact that anyone can do this with the right dedication. After leaving school I took three years out of education and then went back to college to do an access course. Being a mature student gave me advantage, as I had life experience and now I’m ready to really make a go of it.”
