Gareth Farrelly

LLB (Hons) Law

Trainee Solicitor

“I was contemplating what to do with my life after enjoying a successful footballing career which had come to an end due to serious illness. I knew the time was right to do something completely different and so attended an Edge Hill University open day.

Due to my former profession I’d had some experience of dealing with legal-type matters, which had increased when I moved into management, so law was an area that really interested me. Because of this, even though I had been out of education for 16 years, I decided to study the LLB (Hons) Law degree.

It was a massive change for me at first, but I was lucky in that I found the whole subject interesting and stimulating and I developed really good relationships with the tutors, all of whom have been extremely supportive and been available at any time.

Law is an area that is constantly evolving and relevant to every aspect to our lives, so the best thing about the three years for me was increasing my knowledge around the subject I really enjoy. As well as this, the staff at Edge Hill are at the forefront of research in their specialist areas, so to work with them and learn from them has been great.”

After graduating in 2012, Gareth completed the Legal Practice Course and has secured a training contract at Cassell Moore Solicitors as part of the Sports Law Team.
