LLB (Hons) Law, 2011
A high school fascination with TV’s Law and Order inspired Lashay to become a solicitor, arranging a placement with a law firm, her dream becoming reality three years after graduating from Edge Hill.
Lashay knew the market was competitive and looked at improving her chances by volunteering at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and contacting almost every firm within 15 miles of Manchester.
Five placements followed, and through one she earned her training contract, part-time paralegal work leading to thrice-weekly commutes alongside university studies, a position offered after graduation. Starting her LPC at weekends, nine months later Lashay was offered a contract, qualifying before her 24th birthday, later taken on by a large international law firm.
Lashay is keen to progress and has been short-listed for a Magistrate’s role.
“Not everything goes to plan, but you need the ability to adapt, use your strengths and strengthen any weaknesses. The key is not to give up. It doesn’t matter about background as long as you’re willing to work. University gave me knowledge and confidence to overcome nerves. I’m persistent, but perseverance definitely pays off.”
