Charlie Hughes
LLB (Hons) Law, 2016

All good swimmingly for Charlie

There are many different approaches to studying, and competitive swimmer Charlie spent hours in the pool between commitments, maintaining his training schedule to achieve two national bronze medals.

But Charlie – targeting progress to a training contract and becoming a partner – is proud of his ability to focus, seeing his ‘escape from academia’ and extra-curricular activities ‘of paramount importance’.

Not all that time was spent at the baths, Charlie also featuring in a mooting competition, working a summer in the law department of a Montreal global lighting firm, completing a week’s mini-pupillage in Manchester, and sitting with DWF’s Liverpool corporate team.

His classification also secured a BPP law school place, completing his LPC, while his CV was noted during various interviews as ‘very strong’.

“I graduated top of my cohort, and was presented with an academic achievement award for the highest law degree classification. Three hard years opened doors to endless opportunities and a paralegal post at DWF, Manchester. I put that down to the LLB being so intellectually challenging, offering great opportunities to enhance employability skills. My time at Edge Hill was amazing, the lecturers extremely helpful and students brilliant. Three years flew by.”
