LLB (Hons) Law, 2014
After two successful decades in radio broadcasting, Dominic was unsure he could study again. But he thrived at Edge Hill, completing an LPC at BPP and becoming a JMW Manchester trainee solicitor.
Part-time studies made balancing work, study and family challenging, not least with an active university life and organizing events, notably the Defamation Act event with international media law solicitor Paul Tweed and academic author Ursula Smartt. Dominic also praised Professor Rizzuto and his team for ‘not only making my dream a reality, but with learning so enjoyable and applicable to everyday life. Lecturers teach with real enthusiasm, allowing students to engage with a dynamic area of the law’.
Participating in a national mooting competition helped with delivery, research and compiling trial papers (‘many an afternoon with triplicate bundles all over my dining table’). As did talks like those with Manchester United’s solicitor and two ex-Premier League footballers now practicing law.
Furthermore, EHU’s visiting practitioner helped secure a placement, while Pro-Bono law clinic training brought further skills.
“The staff actively encouraged me to succeed. The fact I’m about to commence a training contract is entirely a result of that support and encouragement.”
