Wireless Network – eduroam

Edge Hill University now provides an eduroam wireless network across our campuses. With eduroam you can login with any Wi-Fi compatible phone, tablet or laptop to give you secure access to the internet and other Edge Hill online services.

Eduroam Wi-Fi networks are available in hundreds of locations across the UK and thousands of places worldwide so when you visit another university or college the chances are you’ll be able to login with eduroam. Browse a map of sites or download the eduroam Companion app for iOS and Android.

Connecting to eduroam

Connect to eduroam in the list of wireless networks:

  • Username: username@edgehill.ac.uk
    (e.g. 30054321@edgehill.ac.uk for students or smithj@edgehill.ac.uk for staff)
  • Password: whatever you normally use to login to a PC or GO
    (you will need to update this each time you change your password)

While we have tested eduroam with a variety of mobile devices, the exact process for connecting varies enormously so we can’t provide definitive step-by-step instructions for every system. If you would like assistance connecting to eduroam please bring your device to the IT Service Desk on the first floor of the Durning Centre.

Connecting to eduroam from a Windows computer

If you have a Windows laptop, you will need to install the eduroam certificate before you can connect to the eduroam wireless network. Download and run the appropriate version below:

Manually installing the eduroam certificate on a Windows computer

If you are not prompted to accept Edge Hill’s certificate you may need to download and install it directly to your device:

EHU eduroam certificate (updated June 2018)

  1. Download certificate
  2. Double click the downloaded file
  3. Click Install Certificate
  4. Select Local Machine, and click Next
  5. Select Place all certificates in the following store
  6. Click Browse
  7. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Finish

Connecting to eduroam from a Chromebook

Download the Edge Hill eduroam ONC file.

In the Chrome browser, enter the following URL:
chrome://net-internals/#chromeos

Under Import ONC File, click on Choose File

Select the eduroam-chromeos-EHU.onc file and click Open.

Note: It will appear that nothing has happened at this point.

Click on the WiFi icon and select eduroam

Enter your identity and password:

  • Username: username@edgehill.ac.uk
    (e.g. 30054321@edgehill.ac.uk for students or smithj@edgehill.ac.uk for staff)
  • Password: whatever you normally use to login to a PC or GO
    (you will need to update this each time you change your password)

Eduroam connection fix: Microsoft have issued some updates that break windows 10 pro/enterprise eduroam authentication If you find yourself unable to connect to eduroam, apply this registry key and reboot your machine.
