ISR Public Event: 6th November 2019

ISR Knowledge Exchange Event:

Sustainability in the Region

New Church House, Ormskirk
Wednesday 6 November, 12.30pm – 5.00pm

Sustainability is a challenge facing all humanity in the 21st century. These challenges take many forms and exist at many levels, from the local to global. The United Nations’ 17 ‘Sustainability Development Goals’ or SDGs provide a useful overview of how sustainability affects our livelihoods, well-being and life on our planet. The United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Realising the SDGs’ call to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity can be addressed at both local and global levels.

This ISR knowledge exchange event will bring together academics from Edge Hill University working on a broad range of sustainability-related subjects with organisations and individuals from our local region involved in sustainability work. It will build Edge Hill University’s existing ‘knowledge exchange’ partnerships in this area and develop new ones. Academics and students from Geography, Education, Media, Business and the new Medical School have thus far committed to participate. We hope that other schools and departments will also be interested in being part of the event.

Around 30 or so sustainability-related organisations from the Northwest region will be attending the event. Many of these will have display stalls to showcase their work and provide interactive activities on the day. Organisations that will be represented at the event include:

There will be a programme of short public presentations on sustainability themes. Side meetings with knowledge exchange partners will be arranged, and all guests will have an opportunity to take a ‘sustainable thinking’ test.

If you are interested in knowing more about the event and getting involved, please contact the event’s lead organiser, Prof Christopher Dent christopher.dent@edgehill.ac.uk
