Effective research supervision is crucial for fostering a productive and supportive learning environment. This half-day workshop is designed to equip NHS and social care staff with the essential skills to supervise research internships and projects successfully.

Course overview

This interactive session will provide guidance on best practices in research supervision, covering key topics such as roles and responsibilities, coaching strategies, conflict management, and supervision evaluation. This session will be delivered in-person at Edge Hill University’s Ormskirk campus.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor and supervisee
  • Discuss the nature and requirements for an effective supervision relationship
  • Describe the use of the GROW coaching model to develop staff
  • Apply theories to support successful supervision.
  • Discuss the use of project management principles to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Address challenges in supervision relationships and strategies for conflict management
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the supervision process.
