Research – Dr Jenny Barrett

Released in 1915, The Birth of a Nation was a critically acclaimed, yet highly controversial, black and white silent film depicting the Civil War and Reconstruction-era of America. With its centenary coming up in 2015, Barrett’s research aims to explore the impacts the film has made on debates regarding Hollywood, Popular Culture, Racism and constructions of National Identity.
