Nick Bagnall’s production of Sweeney Todd has taken the Liverpool Everyman by storm, with recent reviews calling the Director’s vision ‘unique, intense and exciting’.
On Wednesday 1st May, ICE will be hosting an event with the Director himself, Musical Director, Tarek Merchant and the actor behind Sweeney Todd, Liam Tobin.
Join us at Edge Hill University where we will be delving into the world behind the scenes of Sweeney Todd, and the experts will be sharing their journeys and their thoughts on the practical realisation of the story through song.

Nick has been the Associate Director for the Everyman & Playhouse since 2014. Previous work for Everyman & Playhouse: A Clockwork Orange and The Big I Am ( Everyman Company 2018 season), The Conquest of the South Pole and Romeo & Juliet (Everyman Company 2017 season); The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Everyman and Shakespeare’s Globe); The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead (Everyman and ETT); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Everyman) and The Electric Hills (Everyman).
Tarek Merchant – Musical Director, Sweeney Todd
Tarek holds two degrees – a Starred First Class Degree in Music from York University, and a further First Class Degree in Actor-Musicianship from his training at Rose Bruford College. Since graduating in 2008, he has been working widely across the UK, Europe and North America as a much sought-after Musical Director, Composer, Arranger, and performing Actor-Musician. As composer, Tarek has created a range of new scores for theatre productions, including Christmas shows for the Watermill Theatre, Orange Tree Theatre, and Edinburgh Lyceum, various commissions for BYMT (formerly YMTUK) as well as composing the songs for Marcy Kahan’s BBC 4 radio play Big In Samoa.

Previous work for Everyman & Playhouse: Fiddler on the Roof, The Conquest of the South Pole, The Sumand Romeo & Juliet (Everyman Company 2017 season); A View From The Bridge (Playhouse) and The Sum (Everyword). Liam has recently finished a short run of a one man show Benny at Chapter Arts Cardiff about the comedian Benny Hill; which can be seen in the Gilded Baloon at The Edinburgh Festival this summer, and hopes to tour the UK later in the year.
