Clinical Skills & Simulation Centre

About the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre

Edge Hill University’s Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre provides clinical skills and simulation training primarily for Faculty of Health and Social Care students and qualified professionals.

Based at both the University’s Ormskirk campus and St James’ Manchester site, the facilities look and feel just like a real hospital ward or healthcare setting and can be easily adapted to recreate other environments.

The Centre offers high-quality training facilities within a realistic but risk-free environment. It contains industry standard simulation equipment, including a wide range of manikins, which can breathe, sweat, choke, tremble and cry out just like real-life patients, all controlled by tutors and facilitators via computer.

The Centre is available for external organisations to hire and is an excellent location for staff training. There are four dedicated multipurpose skills and simulation rooms which can be configured to meet a variety of needs. For further information on hiring the facilities, email

Our Vision is….

to develop a centre of excellence to provide the teaching and learning of skills within a safe environment to enable students to develop and maintain competence in all aspects of clinical skills. In line with the Faculty’s strategies for teaching, learning assessment and research, the Centre will develop research in practice learning, skills acquisition and simulation.
