Your Induction Week

Between finding your way around campus, making new friends and settling into a new place, there’s lots to take on board. But don’t worry! We’re here to help you every step of the way.  Watch our Induction Week video below and read on to find out what you need to do during your first week at Edge Hill University.

Your Induction Week timetable

Your Induction Week timetable provides all the information you need during your first week – including where you need to be and when! There are a range of activities planned for you, some taking place on-campus and others virtually. There are sessions to meet with your subject tutors and students on your course – which is a great way to get to know people you’ll be studying with.

To view your Induction Week timetable please select your programme from the drop down box on the Induction Week Timetable page here.

Enrol on your course

First things first, you need to make sure that you’ve fully enrolled onto your course. Enrolment is the process by which you confirm your personal details and agree to the University’s terms and conditions. This is different to the admissions process and you won’t receive your student loan until you’ve fully enrolled. You also won’t be able to get your Unicard, which acts as your student ID and allows you to access facilities across campus.  If you’re not sure how to complete enrolment, Find out more details on the enrolment pages here.

Explore our support services

Studying at university can be different to anything you’ve done before and you’ll need to know how to get the most out of the library and other learning resources that you’ll need during your studies. Full details are available online.

Check in with your Personal Tutor

Every Edge Hill student has a Personal Tutor, who’s there to help you get the most out of university. You will meet in a group and also individually two or three times a year, and they are always available to discuss any personal or academic concerns you might have. You usually have the same personal tutor for the duration of your course.

Get to know your surroundings

Did you know that Edge Hill’s campus is award winning?  There’s plenty to explore including social areas with outdoor seating, lakeside walks, hidden gardens and a nature trail complete with outdoor exercise equipment. Ormskirk town centre boasts beautiful parks and a lively high street with shops, banks, cafes, bars and a market twice a week. And, when you sign up to Totum via the Students’ Union, you’ll get exclusive student discounts in local shops and restaurants.

Get to know the Students’ Union

While much of your time at Edge Hill will be focused on studying, university is a place where you can develop all aspects of yourself. Whether that’s learning a new language, joining a society or sports club, or spending a year studying abroad, the SU’s Welcome Fair is the place to go to find out what’s on offer. This year the SU is offering a virtual programme, find out more here

Register with the medical centre

We strongly recommend that you register with the local GP service as soon as you can – for doctor’s appointments, nurse drop-in sessions and sexual health and contraception clinics on campus each week. It is not a good idea to leave it until you need to see a doctor as the registration process may delay your appointment.

Settle into campus life

If you’re struggling with settling in or feeling homesick, you’re not on your own. We offer a range of wellbeing workshops to support you throughout your time at Edge Hill. You may feel that you need to talk to someone who can help you get a fresh perspective on how you’re feeling and why. We offer a confidential counselling service especially for this purpose available to all students. You can book an initial appointment online.

Don’t forget you can take advantage of four weeks free access to Edge Hill Sport gym, pool and classes between 28 September and 28 October, with a year’s membership for just £100 after that. Exercise is a great way to boost your mood and relieve stress, not to mention make like-minded friends.
