School Direct

Congratulations on being offered a School Direct place with Edge Hill University and one of our partner schools. This is a one year course for graduates that wish to achieve a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Here you will find some key information to help you get started on your programme, as well as important enrolment details.

Fees and Finance

Unsalaried School Direct Trainees

Unsalaried School Direct trainees are liable to pay tuition fees. You can apply to Student Finance England/Wales/Northern Ireland/EU or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, for a repayable tuition fee loan and maintenance loan/Parents Learning Allowance/Adult Dependants Grant/Disabled Students Allowance, if applicable. When your funding is approved your tuition fee and maintenance support will be paid by the Student Loans Company (SLC).

If your Student Finance has not been fully approved by the time you enrol on your course then you must provide the University with proof of your application. Please provide a copy of the summary page of your Student Finance application or Customer Reference Number from Student Finance to tuitionfees@edgehill.ac.uk.

The ‘University or College Payment Advice Notification’ from Student Finance only needs to be provided to the university if this shows a different university to Edge Hill or you are known by a different surname with student finance. This should be forwarded to tuitionfees@edgehill.ac.uk.

Self-funding students

Tuition fees must be either paid in full at the start of each academic year or by recurring card payment in three equal instalments on the dates listed below:

In order to be fully registered on your course you must have either paid your tuition fees in full or set up your recurring card payment.  Please note you will only be able to set up your recurring card payment 24 hours after you complete Stage Two of your online enrolment, once this time has elapsed please go to: //payments.edgehill.ac.uk/paytuition.

Enrolment

Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning of the year to become a member of the University, release Student Finance (if applicable) and activate your IT/Library account and benefit from all its services. The enrolment process is completed online in two stages:

Stage one

The first stage of enrolment will open on Tuesday 8 August. If your status on UCAS Track is Unconditional Firm (UF) by this date, you will receive an email to the email address you used to make your application. This email will contain everything you need in order to complete stage one including your login details. Please allow 24 hours for this to arrive. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk folder and then contact gettingstarted@edgehill.ac.uk.

Please ensure that you have completed stage one at least two days before you arrive on campus.

As part of stage one, you are required to upload a photograph and identification. To prepare for this, please read the online guide.

After completing stage one, emails regarding enrolment will be sent to your Edge Hill email account. You will need to make sure this is set up before you complete stage two.  To access your Edge Hill email account, please visit the Student Homepage.

Please note, you will only be able to set up your email once you have received your stage one email.

Stage two

You will need to complete stage two to confirm your attendance and release your Student Finance (if applicable). You will need to do this when you first arrive on campus.

When you have successfully completed stage one, an email with the subject line ‘Stage two: next steps’ will be sent to your Edge Hill email address. This will contain instructions and the link you need to complete stage two.

All you need to do is:

  • arrive on campus
  • log onto the Eduroam WiFi on your mobile device (or use a networked campus PC)
  • open your stage two email and click the link
  • Click the button asking you to ‘Login to enrol online’. Once clicked, you will have completed your enrolment.

A delay in enrolling may result in you being unable to access University facilities and a delay to your first student loan payment (if applicable).

Getting here

Arriving by car

Car parking at Edge Hill University is limited and cannot always accommodate all vehicles during peak periods. We therefore recommend, wherever possible, that students use public transport.

Students coming to study at Edge Hill for the first time will need to enrol and receive a student number before a parking permit application can be made.

The issuing of parking permits is based on clear eligibility criteria, however the provision of a permit does not guarantee a parking space due to the limited capacity on campus. Even if you do have a permit, we suggest you build in sufficient time to park off campus when necessary.

Arriving by public transport

You can find out more about arriving at Edge Hill by public transport, including directions for bus or rail travel on our website. Our Edge Link bus runs from Ormskirk Bus Station to the University. The Edge Link bus will drop you off near the main entrance to the University. See the full bus timetable on our website.

Admissions

Please note that the final deadline to satisfy all conditions of your offer is 31 August. Some courses may also have additional requirements with earlier deadlines. If this is applicable to your offer, you will have been advised of these additional requirements by our Admissions Team.

Applicants must have satisfied all academic conditions of their offer to be able to enrol with the University. You are advised to check the status of your application on UTT Track to ensure that you have met the conditions of your offer. Most applicants will have a status of either UF or CF.

UF (Unconditional Firm) means that you have satisfied all academic conditions of your offer (e.g. Proof of qualifications, Skills Test passes etc.) However there may be some non-academic conditions of your offer that are still outstanding, such as medical or DBS clearance, etc. All applicants with a UF status will be able to enrol with the University, however those who still have non-academic conditions to meet will only be able to enrol provisionally until these non-academic conditions have been met, which would also delay any student finance you have applied for.

CF (Conditional Firm) means that there are still academic conditions of your offer that have not yet been met. In most cases this will mean we’re still waiting for evidence of your degree, GCSEs or Skills Test results. Please note, the Admissions Team must see original certificates – photocopies or scanned copies cannot be accepted.
