International event – Coastal Resilience and Adaptation

A 3-day International Coastal Event will take place at Edge Hill University on the 10th – 12th September 2019. The event is organised by the Department of Geography and Geology and is a contribution to several on-going research / knowledge exchange projects, including NERC Thai Coast, Global Challenges Research Fund, and IKEF.

Researchers, academics, and practitioners will meet throughout the 3 days and participate in several activities, including project meetings for the NERC Thai Coast project and GCRF (10th September) and a field trip around the Sefton coast (11th September). The Coastal Studies Lab (CSL) will be running its 2nd Coastal Workshop on the 12th September on the theme of Coastal Resilience and Adaptation.

Activities will bring together a large group of international experts in coastal resilience to Edge Hill University, with opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and boosting on-going and new collaborations. The 2nd Coastal Workshop on the 12th September includes contributions from Universities in the UK (EHU, Sussex, Brighton, Huddersfield, and Stirling), Thailand (Mahidol, Chulalongkorn, and Thammasat), Ireland (Galway), Spain (Gran Canaria) and Canada (Mt Allison University).

Our aim is to have an interesting and applied academic discussion on current coastal issues affecting the vulnerability of coastal populations, and the importance of planning and management in the context of climate change and rising sea-levels.

We look forward to welcoming the NERC Thai coast project research team to the Department of Geography and Geology and are delighted to broaden the international scope of our discussions on such an important topic – coastal vulnerability – at the Coastal Workshop on 12th September.

The 2nd Coastal Workshop on the 12th September is currently open to community members via pre-registration. If you would like to attend please let the team know by contacting Lisa Burke (Lisa.Burke@edgehill.ac.uk) by Monday 9th September.

Further information on the event can be found below:
