The Catering Team at Edge Hill University are very proud to have achieved a number of prestigious awards and accreditation over recent years. These have included:
This year; 2016 the Catering Team have been awarded the much coveted Soil Association’s Gold Food for Life Catering Mark in Waters Edge Restaurant.
Also in 2015 and 2016 the Soil Association’s Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark was achieved in Café Rewind. In 2016 Sages Salad Bar, Grab and Go and the Deli counter in theSCR achieved the bronze award. This is in recognition of Red Tractor meat being sourced, prepared and served, locally sourced breads, Organic meat and some organic vegetables being used and no endangered fish being farmed.
The Food for Life Catering Mark is an independent endorsement, backed by annual inspections, for food providers who are taking steps to improve the food they serve.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage and reward caterers who:
- serve fresh food
- source environmentally sustainable and ethical food
- make healthy eating easy, and
- champion local food producers.
Soil Association and Carbon Trust have joined forces to create the Green Kitchen Standard, a new certification which recognises caterers that are taking positive steps to sustainably manage energy, water and waste.

The University is one of only a few in the UK to achieve this external recognition and the first in the country to receive full accreditation for all its vegetarian dishes. To be Vegetarian Approved a product or operation must fulfil strict criteria and no cross contamination with non-vegetarian products during the production process.
We work with the Red Tractor Farm Assurance scheme encompassing food safety, traceability, hygiene, animal welfare and environmental protection.
All of our eggs are sourced from a local supplier called Ribble Farm and are free range.
