An Edge Hill graduate is ready to kickstart his career in film and television after securing crucial industry experience.

Dylan Nyoni, from Nuneaton, has graduated from Edge Hill University after studying BA (Hons) Film & Television Production.

Dylan, 21, said:

“I thought the course was amazing. I learned so much about how things work being on a professional set, as well as the pre-production process and all the work that goes into preparing for a shoot.

“It taught me what I need to do to work in the industry.

“In the first year, I did a placement at LA Productions and that showed me there’s nothing like being on a live production set – I really saw first-hand how everything works and learned so much.”

Liverpool-based LA Productions have produced drama series including Jimmy McGovern’s Moving On, and Broken, starring Sean Bean as a modern Catholic priest juggling parochial problems with personal challenges.

Dylan added:

“The lecturers at Edge Hill have been amazing. They have gone above and beyond to help me, something I will always remember and appreciate.

“It’s been very practical and given me lots of hands-on experience.”

After graduation, Dylan will continue his work on a documentary about the Research Internships for Minority Ethnic Student (RIMES) programme, which is running for the first time this summer.

Dylan is one of a three-strong team working under the guidance of Senior Lecturer in Television Production, Perelandra Beedles, creating a short film documenting the experiences of the interns as they progress through their projects.

The film will be screened at a celebration event to mark the end of the pilot in October.

Minority ethnic groups are under-represented in research degrees nationally and RIMES aims to give students experience to help give them a taste of working in a research environment.

RIMES projects will run from June to September and offer students the chance to work alongside established researchers, developing skills that will help them develop an awareness of research degrees and careers in research.
