We’ve designed our BA (Hons) Health & Social Wellbeing degree to help you understand the sector and prepare for a range of roles.
Close alignment with the world of work and application to potential future employment is made throughout our programmes. Optional modules allow you to tailor the programme to your own interests and future career aspirations.
The BA (Hons) Health & Social Wellbeing degree provides an alternative to clinical training if you wish to progress in the field of health and social services, in areas such as health promotion, child protection, and the housing sector.
Professional and academic skills
On the course, there is the compulsory first-year module, ‘Introduction to Professional and Academic Skills’. This module enables you to acquire key academic and professional skills on your journey to becoming an independent learner and future professional in these fields of work. Your academic skills will be enhanced to include notetaking, presentation skills, IT skills, the reading of academic articles and the development of a personal portfolio. You will also explore effective and ineffective communication strategies, self-awareness, resilience and transferable life skills such as time management, assertiveness, negotiation, active listening and problem solving.
This degree will also equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue postgraduate study, professional qualifications and further training in areas like nursing, social work, and psychology.
Placement opportunities
Placement opportunities are available on our courses to provide practical experience in real life workplaces. Your knowledge and skills will be attractive to potential employers in the public sector, including health and social care sectors, community and peer services, social services, public health, local government council departments, and the growing voluntary, private, social and healthcare sectors.
During the BA (Hons) Health & Social Wellbeing degree, you will undertake a placement in an area of interest to you and your career ambitions. The third year of study also focuses on inter-professional working and explores health and wellbeing from a global perspective. This means that alongside gaining first-hand experience on work placements, you will be provided with the ideal preparation for a range of careers in health and social care.
