Join us as part of our celebration of International Women’s Day with the first of our Lesson’s in Leadership Series.

On Thursday 7th March 2024, from 4-6pm, we will host a panel of senior female leaders from across Higher Education. Our fantastic panellists will share their career journey to date, their top tips for leadership and the lessons they’ve learned during their careers along with taking questions from the audience.

This interactive discussion session will give you the chance to learn from influential women within the sector and their experience alongside the opportunity to ask your questions to enable your growth as a future leader in the sector.

You can join us in person or online for this event and this session is suitable for any HE professional within the UK.

The in-person event will be followed by networking and refreshments at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk Campus.

Host:

Lynda Brady – Pro-vice Chancellor (Student Experience) and University Secretary, Edge Hill University (EHU)

Lynda Brady

Lynda has held her current role as PVC (Student Experience) & University Secretary at Edge Hill University for 10 years. In this role she has strategic responsibility for the experience EHU deliver to their 15,000 students (recently rated as Gold in the TEF assessment).

Prior to joining Edge Hill, she worked for the Open University for 12 years in a number of roles including Regional Director for the OU in the North West and latterly, Director of Learner Support Services for the OU nationally and internationally, then supporting 250,000 students.

She has also worked as an academic and academic manager at Liverpool John Moore University in the Law School, having originally trained as a solicitor.

Panellists

Katherine Clough, Director of External Engagement, Royal Agricultural University (RAU)

Katherine is an experienced Higher Education Professional with over 16 years in the sector across a number of institutions.  She has been the Director of External Engagement at RAU since November 2021, leading their vision to be the UK’s global university for sustainable farming and land management, enabling communities locally, nationally and across the world to thrive in harmony with nature.

Prior to RAU, Katharine was Director of External Engagement at University of Wolverhampton, and her expertise includes stakeholder engagement, marketing and businesses development across sectors including finance, local government and higher education.

When not in work Katharine can be found Escaping into nature be that a hike or a potter in the garden.

Professor Clare Ozanne, Vice Chancellor and Rector, Liverpool Hope University

Clare joined Liverpool Hope in March 2023 bringing significant senior leadership experience in Higher Education and a proven track record of guiding and strengthening institutions through times of change.

Her previous senior leadership roles included Deputy Director and Provost at SOAS University of London and Vice Provost at the University of Roehampton.

A Professor of Ecology, her work focuses on forests and other habitats influenced by human activities and she has led multidisciplinary projects in the UK, Australia, Nigeria, Ethiopia and in Guyana.

Professor Ozanne is a Principal Fellow of the HEA, has served on the British Academy Strategic Committee for Languages in Higher Education and has experience as a QAA reviewer.

Outside of work Clare enjoys Scuba diving, dancing, and skiing.

Isabel Lucas, Dean: Faculty of Education, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

Isabel has been teaching in various ways for nearly 30 years, starting with teaching Principles of Flight to cadets, then teaching English to international learners at home and abroad and later teacher-training in ELT (English Language Teaching). Following a number of years working in academies, schools, universities and businesses in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and New Zealand, she returned to the UK to work in Higher Education. Starting as an hourly-paid Lecturer in HE she worked her way up to a Dean (HE) and Director (FE).  Her experience spans undergraduate, postgraduate, commercial courses, apprenticeships, UK collaborative provision, international (Asia, Middle East, Europe), quality, business development, student experience and staff development.

Isabel has always been committed to teaching as a way of empowering individuals and supporting them to make positive contributions to their families and in the communities in which they live and work. Her current research interests are within Academic Practice (the ‘craft’ of teaching and modified teacher discourse), and approaches to Curriculum Development.

When not working, Isabel loves sport, she runs, does boxing, martial arts, weights, and plays badminton.  She also loves to get out on the fells and soak in the views of the Lake district.
