An opportunity to join all-day dance workshops led by Lisa Simpson, choreographer and director of Lisa Simpson Inclusive Dance.
As an artist with quadriplegic cerebral palsy who is also non-verbal, Lisa uses a unique methodology and a choreographic tool to translate her choreographic vision. The Simpson Board is an inexpensive but priceless tool that enables her to communicate her ideas through a trained translator.
Lisa’s workshop will introduce dancers to the principles of Simpson Board practice and provide opportunities for everyone to realise their own creative vision using a Simpson Board. The methodology is transferable to a wide range of settings and different arts practices.
The original Simpson Board was developed with the support of Adam Benjamin (co-founder of Canduco Dance Company). Adam witnessed Lisa’s visual arts practice and how she directed her artistic vision by communicating with her eyes. He considered whether a similar method could be used with bodies in space. Since then Lisa has established an impressive track record delivering workshops, training and creating choreographic pieces in both community and professional settings, nationally and internationally. This year Lisa realised a long term ambition to create her first piece of professional work with a company of non-disabled trained dancers. Lisa’s company is made up of five Edge Hill alumni.
