bare: a pop opera

Book by Jon Hartmere and Damon Intrabartolo
Music by Damon Intrabartolo
Lyrics by Jon Hartmere

High school seniors at an American Catholic boarding school struggle with questions of personal identity, sexuality, and expression as they attempt to reconcile their faith with their adolescent desires. As graduation looms, the students turn to their parents and to the Church for spiritual and moral guidance. Instead of providing advice, the adults dance around each question, unwilling to have honest conversations about difficult subjects. Feeling lost, the students must look inward to answer perhaps the most difficult question of all: must they change who they are to reflect the teachings of their faith, or can they adapt their faith to reflect who they are?

bare: a pop opera features a vibrant rock score which is almost entirely sung throughout. The story is a new and original addition to the long list of stories inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
