Friday 30th November 7:30pm: Clown Cabaret hosted by Manchester Clown Lab
Saturday 1st December 10.00am – 4.00pm Symposium
STATE OF PLAY is a 2-day symposium at Edge Hill University, an opportunity for anyone interested in the art of the clown to meet, connect, play and ask crucial questions about the of clowning today.
STATE OF PLAY takes the evolving relationship of clown and circus as a starting point to ask broader questions about the relevance of clowning in today’s society. Where does clowning find meaning and resonance in contemporary culture? Where are clowns employed and for what purposes? What training exists and what more is needed? Are clowns able to be political or are they simply entertainers?
Such questions, and many more, will be explored over two days of workshops, performances and discussions. Guest artists and academics will be offering short taster workshops and provocations, but there will also be plenty of opportunity for networking and sharing of both practice and research among attendees.
Cost for 2 day symposium (including entry to the Friday night Cabaret)
