Best of British animation to be unveiled at Edge Hill
Three nights of the best British animated work produced by students and professionals is coming to Edge Hill University.
For the third time, the University has been chosen to screen the crème-de-la-crème creations for the British Animation Awards (BAA) 2018, which covers all aspects of the UK animation scene, from student work, commercials and children’s entertainment to short and experimental art films, music videos and new technologies.
It is a totally unique and free event – the only one that brings together all the key players, emerging and established talent from the many and varied sectors of the UK animation scene.
Edge Hill University is one of a few selected venues which will screen the free Public Choice Programme, which allows visitors to vote for their favourite from three evenings of exciting animation films made over the past two years.
Alex Jukes, Programme Leader for Animation, says being chosen to showcase the films is an exciting opportunity for the University: “This is a fantastic chance for our students to see the best in animation over the last two years in all its disciplines. It gives them a sense of what the real world produces and the kind of standards they should be aspiring to. It’s also a rare opportunity to see these films as many of the animations they won’t be screened beyond the festival network..
“We will also use the event to reach out to the local community and showcase what we do here at Edge Hill in this subject area. We’re building up a very strong reputation in animation so hosting the BAA awards and introducing new degree courses is helping us to strengthen our position even further in the market.”
The BAA screenings take place in the brand new state-of-the-art £17m Creative Edge building on the Ormskirk campus on the 29th, 30th and 31st January from 5:30pm to 7.30pm.
