Betrayals or Solutions: What’s on Offer for the Vulnerable Children of Britain
Camila Batmanghelidjh, leading childhood commentator and founder of London-based charity The Kids Company delivered a provocative public lecture entitled Betrayals or Solutions: What’s on offer for the vulnerable children of Britain? during the summer of the anniversary year.
In an emotional and inspiring talk, Camila outlined her model for a new progressive approach to safeguarding vulnerable children drawing upon her experiences of working with children and young people who have suffered neglect, abuse and a lack of continuous love from a parent.
A trained psychotherapist and high-profile social entrepreneur, Camila founded the Kids Company in 1996, a charity that supports children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties in inner-city London. She has won numerous awards, such as Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005, Woman of the Year in 2006, a nomination in the Good List, also in 2006 and Business Woman of the Year in 2009. She is a prominent media commentator on the social and psychological well-being of children and young people.
In July 2010 Camila also received an Honorary Degree from Edge Hill University, dedicating her award to the many children and young people known to her charity.
