La Belle et la Bête

30th Oct 2008, 7:30pm - 8:50pm

Studio Theatre

Throughout the year, the Studio Theatre in Edge Hill University’s Centre for the Performing Arts will screen a diverse body of carefully selected films at a highly affordable price.

La Belle et la Bête (Jean Cocteau, 1946) will be screened on Thursday 30th October. The film is a PG certificate. French with English subtitles.

Cocteau takes us into a realm of fantasy and surrealism where nothing – not even the candelabra or the decorative carvings in the Beast’s castle – is quite what it seems, where ugliness masks integrity and handsome faces conceal treachery.  Belle is feisty and the Beast is at once brutal and gentle, rapacious and vulnerable, shamed and repelled by his own bloodlust.

  • Running Time: 89 minutes
  • Cost for Members: £12 per annual membership (£10 concessions) and £2 on the door.
  • Cost for Non-members: £3.50 on the door.
