Celebrate the Year of the Monkey

The Confucius Institute will be celebrating Chinese New Year and the Hub will be transformed into a “Chinese Street Market” showcasing many different aspects of Chinese culture, food and entertainment.

Why don’t you visit us throughout the day from 11.30am-3pm and sample Chinese tea and dim sum, enjoy a game of Chinese chess or table tennis, as well as try your hand at Chinese painting, paper folding, calligraphy and other activities.

There will be Film Screenings in the Rose Theatre 3.00-5.00pm

    In the late 1970s, Xiao-Mei leaves rural China for an arranged marriage in London. Struggling to make sense of her new situation in a strange country, she embarks on a spiritual journey as she discovers family, both old and new.

  • Blue Funnel – Director:  Paul Mayeda Berges

    A contemporary drama set in the Chinese community in Liverpool, follows Daniel as he tries to send his father’s ashes back to his ancestral village.
    Daniel’s father left Hong Kong aged 14 and spent his life as a seaman coming in and out of the Liverpool docks where he married an English girl. The ashes need to return ‘home’ for his spirit to rest… but Daniel realises he’s not sure where ‘home’ is.

The Rose Theatre will present a “Chinese New Year Extravaganza” at 5.00pm including a variety of displays including Lion Dances, Contortion, Acrobatics and Kung Fu
