Our open days are a great way to get to know us and for you to experience your future. Year 12 student, Eva, decided to join us at our October Open Day. And she’s told us all about her visit.
Arriving for the day
When I arrived on campus, I instantly felt the warm, welcoming atmosphere from the students. They were so helpful and made sure that I knew where to go to register for the day. I received my programme in the post a few weeks before, so I’d already planned my day out, but the additional materials and goody bag provided at Registration were great for any extra information I needed. Don’t worry about getting lost, students and staff are available across campus to point you in the right direction. And they’re happy to explain the times and details of the day and help you to find the relevant information sessions in the open day programme.
Subject talks and information
On the day, I attended a subject talk for both Sociology and Film, Media and Broadcast Production. The lecturers were genuinely enthusiastic about their subject area. Their presentations were very insightful and went into detail about the topics that I would get to study on the course. They also talked about the amazing opportunities that they offer. Like studying abroad and learning a new language. These opportunities are a great way to try something new that you probably wouldn’t have chance to do otherwise. And these new skills can make you stand out from the crowd. As well as enhance your employability prospects.
The subject talks also covered the range of teaching methods at Edge Hill. From conventional lectures and seminars to innovative workshops, project work and information retrieval and analysis. It made me think that learning at Edge Hill sounds very engaging.
After my subject talk, I was shown around campus by a really friendly, informative student. I got to see the learning and social facilities – and even looked around the Catalyst building – that was amazing. And there are so many places to eat and socialise. I really enjoyed the self-guided accommodation tours too. As I got to see the range of rooms and accommodation buildings that I could choose to live in.
Organisation and refreshments
I was really impressed with the organisation throughout the day. I got to chat to a range of teams and university staff at the student experience fair and that was really useful. And a nice added touch was that lunch and refreshments were provided in each building across campus. Not just for me, but for my guests too. It really showed us that the University had thought about making all visitors feel welcome.
How I felt once the day was complete
My Edge Hill University experience made me feel optimistic about my future. Chatting to students throughout the day was encouraging as I got to hear about how they’ve made the most out of their time at Edge Hill. Whether that was through getting involved in societies and clubs or attending fieldtrips which have boosted their skills and confidence. And hearing about how their experiences are helping them to prepare for their future is motivating as I feel like Edge Hill offers more than just a degree.
