Research Ethics

The Faculty of Health and Social Care Research Ethics Committee (FREC) reviews each submitted proposal, individually, to ensure that it accords with accepted ethical principles appropriate to health and social care. Approved applications must demonstrate they contain procedures and processes for adherence to relevant standards such as the Data Protection Act (1998), Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care (2005) and the requirements of the Health Research Authority (HRA), as appropriate. Additionally, FREC members will be guided in deliberations by the Edge Hill University Framework for Research Ethics and the UK Universities Concordat to support research integrity.

Research governance procedures outlining the research ethics application and scrutiny processes, along with the Terms of Reference for the Faculty Research Ethics Committee, can be found on the Faculty Research Ethics Policy.
