BA (Hons) Creative Writing
Abbie took the first step towards turning her hobby into a dream career by applying to study Creative Writing at Edge Hill.
Choosing which career path to follow as a Creative Writing student in such a diverse industry can feel like a daunting prospect. Fortunately for Abbie, her second year Cultural Economies module working as part of a team to develop and produce a literary magazine provided her with experience and an insight into her future career as a magazine journalist. This work-related learning opportunity allowed her to develop the editorial, communication and organisational skills that are sought after by potential employers.
Following graduation, Abbie successfully applied for a highly competitive place on Penguin Random House UK’s work experience programme. She has now gained employment with another global publisher, DC Thompson, as a magazine journalist working on The Official Jacqueline Wilson Magazine.
“Sharing my work was a nerve-wracking idea at first, but the course provided a community of other writers to develop with and that environment helped to build the confidence I needed to put my writing out into the world.”
