Pathway and foundation programmes

Discover the range of pathway and foundation programmes available through the Language Centre at Edge Hill University.

Pre-Sessional English

If you are an international student wishing to study at Edge Hill University but you do not have the English language requirements for your chosen degree programme, a Pre-sessional course may be appropriate in helping you achieve the level you need.

We offer courses of 5 and 20 weeks, the length of your course will depend on two factors. These will be your current English language level and the level required for the degree programme you are applying to.

Postgraduate Research Pre-Sessional

Our Postgraduate Research Pre-Sessional course is designed for MRes, PhD or Professional Doctorate applicants at Edge Hill University whose first language is not English.

If you possess an IELTS score half a band lower (overall or in one or two elements) than the standard entry criteria required for your intended postgraduate research programme, the Postgraduate Research Pre-Sessional course will enhance your academic English skills, particularly academic writing, while introducing you to the key concepts required for postgraduate research.

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Foundation Year

Develop the key transferable skills and subject-specific knowledge to join degrees in the subject areas of business and management, education, English, geography, history, media or sociology at Edge Hill University.

STEM Foundation Year

The STEM foundation year provides the opportunity to study an integrated four year programme. You will complete a Foundation Year before progressing onto a degree in biology, computer science, computer engineering, or geography and geology, subject to passing all assessments.

Fastrack: Preparation for higher education

Fastrack is an intensive, seven-week preparation for higher education programme for adults. Comprising of one week of preparation and six weeks of full-time study, this is designed to enhance your subject knowledge. The programme is free of charge to UK students.
