Course Details

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Dates: Thursday 10th October – Thursday 12th December 2019
  • Time: 6-8 pm
  • Location: LP0.11, Law and Psychology Building

Step 1 Entry Criteria

This course is for those with little or no previous knowledge of the language.

Emphasis is set on:

  • achieving a basic level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
  • developing confidence and a degree of accuracy when using the language in a limited range of everyday situations encountered when interacting with sympathetic native speakers
  • stimulating interest in countries where the language is spoken

What will you do in the weekly sessions?

Students will practise listening, speaking, reading and writing in the sessions. They will be expected to take part actively in group and pair work and role plays.

Independent Learning

Your progress will be greatly enhanced if you reinforce the topics covered in the group with some private study.

Step 2

Course Details

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Dates: Thursday 30th January – Thursday 2nd April 2020
  • Time: 6-8pm
  • Location: LP0.11, Law and Psychology Building

Step 2 Entry Criteria

This 10 week course is aimed at those who have completed Step 1 (equivalent of 20 hours of tuition) of the Beginners course.

Emphasis is set on:

  • reinforcing and extending content from Step 1
  • achieving a practical level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
  • developing greater confidence and accuracy when using the language in a limited range of situations
  • stimulating interest in countries where the language is spoken and deepening understanding of the language

What will you do in the weekly sessions?

Students will practise listening, speaking, reading and writing in the sessions. You will be expected to take part actively group and pair work, role play, and individual or group presentations.

Independent Learning

Your progress will be greatly enhanced if you reinforce the topics covered in class with some private study.

Course Details

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Dates: This Step will not run until spring 2020
  • Time: 6-8pm
  • Location: To be confirmed

Step 3 Entry Criteria

This 10 week course is aimed at those who have completed Step 1 and Step 2 (equivalent of 40 hours of tuition).

Emphasis is set on:

  • reinforcing and extending content from Step 1 and 2
  • achieving an elementary level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
  • developing even greater confidence and accuracy when using the language in a broader range of situations
  • developing the ability to apply grammatical rules in order to speak and write in the language accurately
  • stimulating interest in countries where the language is spoken

What will you do in the weekly sessions?

Students will practise listening, speaking, reading and writing in the sessions. There is emphasis  on student participation and you will be expected to take part actively in group and pair work, role play, and individual or group presentations.

Independent Learning

Your progress will be greatly enhanced if you reinforce the topics covered in class with some private study.

Each 10 week course consists of a 2 hour lesson, held once a week, over the period of 10 weeks.
