Why learn a language?
Language Steps courses are perfect for individuals who wish to take up a new hobby, prepare for travel abroad or for students who wish to enhance their CV and diversify their university studies. Here are some of the benefits of learning a language:
- Learn a brand new invaluable skill
- Gain an insight into a different culture through language
- Improve the functionality of your brain
- Become better at English
- Meet new people and learn how to converse in a different language
- Enhance your employability
What is my language level?
Courses run at 3 main levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each level consists of 2 parts: Step 1 (Oct-Dec) and Step 2 (Jan-Mar). The course that you choose should be determined by your language level. Please see our guide below:
|Beginner||Very little or no prior knowledge of the language
GCSE grade D or below
|Intermediate||GCSE grade C-A*
AS grade D/E or equivalent
|Advanced||A Level pass or equivalent|
There may be some variation to language level descriptors above, for example, you may not necessarily have a qualification in the language but may have lived in a country where the target language is spoken. If you are unsure of your language level, please contact the Language Support Tutor at email@example.com who will be able to advise you on the best route.
Will I get a certificate on completion of the course?
Language Steps courses are non-credit bearing, so you will not receive a certificate although we can issue a letter to confirm your attendance on the course. If you require a letter of confirmation, please contact the Language Centre Administrator. This can be posted to your address, or can be collected from the office.
Do I need to bring anything to the lessons?
You should bring your coursebook, as well a notepad to make notes during the session and a pen. It is also useful to bring your smartphone or tablet if you have one.
What happens if there is a second lockdown once the course has started?
If it any point we are not able to deliver face to face sessions due to government restrictions relating to COVID-19, the course will be delivered online. Live sessions will be delivered via Microsoft Teams or Blackboard Collaborate. Please note that you will need a computer and access to the internet to be able to take part in the online sessions, should this arise.
What if I sign up and pay for a course, and it is subsequently cancelled?
Courses can only run subject to viable numbers. If you sign up for a course and it is subsequently cancelled, you will receive notification by email and a full refund.
Can I park on the campus?
Yes, as our classes take place in the evening, you are free to park on the campus. You will not require a permit to park.
Where will my class take place?
