The Language Centre offers a verity of courses for home students, international students, Edge Hill staff and members of the local community.

If you wish to become a teacher of English please find full details under Teach English.

If you are a home student interested in studying a language as part of your main degree, or on a supplementary basis, please find full details under Learn a Language.

Our Evening Language Steps courses are open to Edge Hill students, staff and members of the local community.

The Language Centre offers Pathway and Foundation programmes for students needing extra support before joining their main courses.

Teach English

MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Develop a strong conceptual understanding of the fundamental theories and key principles of language education as well as a critical awareness of key national and international issues at the forefront of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Teacher Education and Training Courses
The Language Centre offers Teacher Education and Training courses during the summer period. These are bespoke courses for teachers of English language to students whose first language is not English. We can also offer courses for teachers of other subjects who use English as the main medium of instruction when teaching. Courses are designed based on your needs.

Trinity CertTESOL
The Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) is an intensive four-week face-to-face training course for anyone who wants to be an English language teacher. It is designed for people with little or no experience of teaching English, and also for those who have teaching experience but want to obtain an internationally recognised qualification.

Learn a Language

Language Modules – these are 20 credit elective modules open to full-time undergraduate FAS students who wish to study a language as part of their degree.

Language Steps – Extracurricular Evening Language Classes – these are evening classes designed for students, staff and members of the community who wish to learn a language on an extracurricular basis.

Pathway and Foundation

For students needing additional support before starting the main courses, or for those who are returning to education we offer our Pathway and Foundation programmes.

English Language Courses

Pre-sessional Course – this 6 week course is designed to improve your academic skills to help you with your studies.

International Foundation Programme – this is a level 3 course designed to enhance language skills, study skills and subject knowledge.

English Language Development Course – this course provides further language development and includes aspects of British culture.

English Plus Courses – these summer programmes provide English language with aspects of subject-specific knowledge.

Academic Literacy and English Language Support – this is language support for international students registered at the University.

 

Other Courses

Language and Culture Classes for Refugees – Free 2 hour English language classes.
