Introduction

If you are a prospective international student interested in studying English, please see our English Language Courses above for our range of year round and summer courses. Please note that the Language Centre can only accept international students over the age of 18 years.

If you are a home student interested in studying a language as part of your main degree, or on a supplementary basis, please find full details under Other Languages.

We also run a Conversation Exchange Scheme, open to the entire University community, which allows you to learn and practise any available language of your choice with a designated language partner.

If you are a postgraduate interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages, our MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) degree may be appropriate for you.

English Language Courses

English Language Development Course – this year round course provides further language development and includes aspects of British culture.

International Foundation Programme  – this is a level 3 course designed to enhance language skills, study skills and subject knowledge.

In-sessional Language Support – this is language support for international students registered at the University.

Summer Courses

Pre-sessional Course – this 6 week course is designed to improve your academic skills to help you with your studies.

English Language Development Course – this summer programme provides further language development and includes aspects of British culture.

English Plus Business – this summer programme provides English language with aspects of Business.

English Plus Computer Science – this summer programme provides English language with aspects of Computer Science.

Teach English

MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Develop a strong conceptual understanding of the fundamental theories and key principles of language education as well as a critical awareness of key national and international issues at the forefront of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Other Languages

Language Modules – these are 20 credit elective modules open to full-time undergraduate FAS students who wish to study a language as part of their degree.

Language Steps – Extracurricular Evening Language Classes – these are evening classes designed for students, staff and members of the community who wish to learn a language on an extracurricular basis.

Conversation Exchange – this is a language sharing community which allows you to connect with speakers of other languages.
