**New Course for Summer 2021**
Do you want to know more about British culture? Do you want to visit famous places and areas of great beauty in the English countryside? Then this is the course for you!
The Language Centre offers the British Cultural Studies Course during the Summer. It is a short course with a duration of 3-weeks, and it provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the culture of Britain and visit sites of cultural and historical significance in North West England.
Course Components
During the course, students will study ‘themes’ which will allow them to gain an understanding of culture in the northwest of England. This is not a language course, but students’ English language will improve during the course as they are introduced to new language and practise their listening, speaking and reading. There is no assessment on this course.
British Culture Session (9 hours per week)
The course will cover a series of themes relating to British Culture and the northwest of England including (but not limited to):
- Exploring the northern coast
- Music in the north
- Great northern writers
- Industry in the north
- The northern countryside
- Sport in the north
British Culture visits or trips (21 hours per week or 3-day trips per week)
Students will have the opportunity to visit places of interest linked to the themes above. Students will have lessons in the classroom and then have the opportunity to go and visit the places they have learned about. The trips may vary depending on the availability of tickets at the time of booking the course, but will include major cities in the North and places of cultural significance. Visits may include Liverpool, Manchester, Southport, Yorkshire and the Lake District.
Course Duration and Dates
The British Culture Studies course is only available during the summer for a period of 3-weeks.

Course Hours
The course includes 9 hours of British cultural sessions and 21 hours (or three days) of trips per week.
Class Size
The minimum number of students for a group for this course booking is 10 students. The maximum class size is 15 students.
Course Fees
The price per student is estimated at £750-£800 and is subject to change based on student numbers and the availability of trips. A quote will be provided upon application. The course price includes all tuition, airport transfers from Manchester airport and accommodation on campus.
Entry Requirements
A minimum English language level of B2 (CEFR), equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in each sub-skill is required for the British Cultural Studies Course.
