Teaching:

Jonathan is a teacher educator. He teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate primary ITE courses and supervises dissertations at doctoral level. His teaching focuses on special educational needs and disability as well as broader aspects of inclusion. Jonathan is particularly interested in aspects of social justice, including mental health, LGBTQ+ inclusion and race equality in schools.

History:

Jonathan has worked in higher education for 15 years following a 10-year career as a primary school teacher and teacher educator. He has worked in four universities in a range of academic roles, including leading primary ITE programmes, leading postgraduate taught provision and supervising doctoral students. He has also worked in a cross-institutional leadership role leading learning, teaching and assessment.

Interests:

Jonathan is interested in all aspects of social justice. He is committed to improving the experiences of marginalised individuals. He is particularly interested in educational psychology, critical psychology and critical disability studies.

Achievements:

  • 2015 National Teaching Fellow

Research interests:

Jonathan is currently researching the experiences of disabled LGBTQ+ youth. His recent research has focused on the theme of teacher wellbeing. Jonathan is an active researcher and has authored over 80 books and journal articles.

Knowledge transfer and enterprise:

Jonathan is regularly invited to present keynote addresses at national and international conferences. He also regularly presents his research to schools.
