Primary Phase

Professor Jonathan Glazzard

Professor Jonathan Glazzard, Head of Children, Education and Communities Department

Welcome from the Head of Children, Education and Communities

We are delighted that you have chosen to train to be a primary school teacher at Edge Hill University. Your training and education will focus on teaching children in the 5-11 age-range. You will also gain some experience teaching children in the early years foundation stage.

The training will provide you with the subject knowledge required to teach the full breadth of the primary National Curriculum. You will study all subjects which are taught in primary schools. You will also develop a thorough knowledge of inclusion and social justice. These lie at the heart of our curriculum. You will apply your learning in schools, and we will ensure that you have the opportunity to teach children of different ages. Throughout the programme you will learn to reflect critically on your own professional practice, and you will develop your own values and beliefs in relation to primary education. At the end of the programme, you will be recommended for qualified teacher status (QTS).

We look forward to sharing your journey with you.
