Postgraduate Teacher Training

If you already hold a degree in any subject (at 2:2 or above) our postgraduate teacher training programmes offer you the opportunity to complete a 1 year PGCE in teacher training. This is an intensive programme enabling you to be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the end of the year.

These programmes combine high quality masters level teaching and learning at Edge Hill University with at least two different school based placements offering you the opportunity to make strong connections between the learning you have been involved in at the University and the practice you are engaged with in the classroom.

There are a number of PGCE routes offered nationally. Below we have outlined the routes we offer here within the Faculty of Education.

Postgraduate  Routes

PGCE – application made via UCAS – the teaching on this programme is delivered by Edge Hill University and placements are sourced and quality assured by us

School Direct -applications made via UCAS – apply to a school that offers School Direct. You will be based in this ‘lead’ school or within an associated school for your placements. All teaching is delivered by Edge Hill University at the Ormskirk campus.
