Holy Cross College

Our academic partner, Holy Cross College has a lifelong learning offer of Faculty of Education programmes, delivered on site at Holy Cross College.

Our PGCE Primary Education with QTS programmes offer future teachers the opportunity to tailor their training towards their own strengths, interests and circumstances.

The majority of our student teachers take the standard route, which is based at Ormskirk. In addition, we have a cohort of students who choose to follow the standard route at our partnership site, Holy Cross College and University Centre, in Bury.

This is a very busy course, and students have to be ready to engage from the start. However, one of the greatest joys for course tutors is to notice how our students grow as professionals within a very short time.

Perhaps the key advantage of university-based Initial Teacher Education (ITE) provision is that we draw together both theory and practice. Edge Hill student teachers are guided by a specialist and highly experienced team of primary teachers and teacher education professionals. We are proud of our partnership with schools, but also of our students, many of whom continue to work with us, beyond their training, as mentors to the next generation of student teachers.

Becoming a primary teacher is one of the most important and rewarding careers you could choose. Our vision is to guide our PGCE primary students to become the most informed, passionate, committed and visionary teachers they can be.
